(Photograph) - Seeing the wood and the trees: Jackie Phillips, the regional winner for Wales in the TES Primary Science Teacher of the Year award scheme, guides a pupil. Mrs Phillips, deputy head at St Mary's RC School in Bridgend, is one of six regional winners of the primary award, set up to promote good science teaching and spread good practice, and sponsored by the chemical company Pfizer.

The other winners are: Chris Denton, Mulbarton First School, Norfolk; Julie Fitch, Crabtree Junior School, Harpenden, Herts; Julia Kelly, Dudley Infant School, Hastings, East Sussex; Jill Matthews, Upton County Junior School, Broadstairs, Kent and Angela Murphy, St Luke's RC Primary School, Salford. The winners of the secondary regional awards, sponsored by The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, are Kathryn Coxall, Northcott School, Hull; Michael Cousins, Presdales School, Ware; Pauline Edwards, Phoenix School, London; Julie Fleetwood, Ralph Allen School, Bath; Brendan Harkin, St Brecan's High School, Londonderry and Raymond Lyons, All Saints RC High School, Kirkby. Each has won Pounds 100, for themselves and for their school.

The national winners, to be named at the Association for Science Education annual meeting at Birmingham University on January 3, 1977, will win prizes of Pounds 500, plus Pounds 300 for their school.
