The shopping list
Q If you had David Blunkett's budget what would your priority be?
A I'd set up smaller schools that would take a maximum of 800 pupils. I'd also offer incentives for teachers to stay in teaching, starting with a higher salary and payment for running extra-curricular activities.
Q If you had a blank cheque for your own school what would you buy?
A First, i'd renovate and paint the whole building and upgrade all facilities which woud include a large, well-equipped and comfortable staff room. Purpose-built theatre arts and performance suites would be essential for music and drama with state- of-the-art lighting and sound equipment too.
Q What treat would you buy yourself?
A A Howarth clarinet, a top-of-the-range, blue Peugeot 206, free theatre and concert tickets for life. Oh yes, and a time travel machine.
