THE CHILDREN'S LITERATURE WEB GUIDE. www.acs.ucalgary.ca dkbrownindex.html
This Canadian site is packed with information about children's literature, with news, features, lesson ideas and a global round-up of children's literature awards, including a section on British publications.
The site has a helpful selection of children's book-related links, including collections of stories, poetry and songs. The site also has links to writing by children across the English-speaking world, including a number of Internet literacy projects.
Children's books have been a regular source of inspiration for film makers and this Web site has a section looking at the adaptation of stories for cinema and television, including movies such as Babe, James and the Giant Peach, The Little Princess and 101 Dalmatians.
Every Web site should have a piece of trivia to take away and this one obliges with an all-time children's best-seller list (up until 1995), which puts Charlotte's Web by E.B. White in the number one slot, with nearly eight million sales of its 1974 HarperCollins paperback edition.
THE NATFHE WEB SITE
As well as getting a new general secretary this year, the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education has set up a new Web site, offering information to members and casual browsers alike.
Included on the site is an online edition of the union's newsletter, The Lecturer. You can also check an archive of press releases, and the site has its own news section, but at present the latest news is still a report on the election of the new general secretary, Paul Mackney earlier this year.
Although the site is still on the functional side, there are plans for a more developed online service, with specialist areas for policy and research, equal opportunities and pensions information.
