The Scottish Schools' Ski Association cancelled the Scottish Schools' Snowboarding Championships due to take place at Midlothian Ski Centre last Saturday. Only five schools entered for the event.

It was a similar tale last year when just one school entered. The only time the event has been staged was in 1997. In 1998, the championships clashed with rugby international which led to teams calling off, and in 1999 they were to have been held on snow but there was not enough.

Scotland's top young skiers will be in action next Saturday when the British Championships are held in Llandudno. Edinburgh Academy and George Watson's College are the boys' and girls' Scottish schools' champions.
