(Photograph) - A week in the life of Rosebery County Primary School, Loughborough, Leicestershire Headteacher Steve Winter is a firm believer in residential visits. "They're an important part of school life and are always well supported by staff and children," he says. Trips are arranged for pupils from Year 2 upwards, and groups have gone as far afield as Aberglaslyn in north Wales and Hardelot, near Calais in France.

This three-day stay in Matlock, Derbyshire - famous for its mineral springs - took place before Easter and involved 60 children from Years 3 and 4. They lodged in the local youth hostel and went on visits to Carsington Reservoir, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth House as well as to the local swimming baths and park. "An enjoyable week with the usual thrills and spills," says Steve, who is already looking forward to Year 2's residential visit to nearby Beaumanor Hall in June.
