Socratic dispute

EUROPEAN UNION: A resolution to exclude Italy from the university exchange part of the EU's Socrates programme is expected to be put to the vote next week. Hugh McMahon, MEP for Strathclyde West, has called for firm action against the Italians for discriminating against non-Italian teachers of languages in Italian universities. The teachers are almost all from EU countries, but despite working longer hours than their Italian counterparts earn less and lack employment rights.
