Five-year-old Benjamin started school at the same time his mother began a full-time degree course. She assured him that as soon as she finished each day, she would come home.

A while later Benjamin's class teacher was checking emergency contact numbers. "I didn't know your Mummy was at university," she said. "What is she going to do when she's finished?" Benjamin was puzzled. "Come home."
