Southwark ballot on new offer
Members of their union, NATFHE, were awaiting results of a postal ballot on a new offer as The TES went to press.
National negotiators from the lecturers' union met college management last week and secured some concessions over the proposed use of agencies for part-time staff.
But there was no movement over the sacking of senior lecturer Chris Ryan who was fired after refusing a new management post created during a reorganisation.
NATFHE negotiating secretary Sue Berryman said she had not recommended the offer to the branch.
"This is as far as we can get by negotiation and therefore the branch will make its decision on that basis," she said. " We did try to crack the basic issues and it was a serious negotiation."
Principal Dorothy Jones insisted the new offer, which includes limits on the use of agency staff and help for Mr Ryan to find a new job, was reasonable.
