Special inclusion

The letter "Inclusion excludes too many" (TES, April 30), struck a chord.

Our school (Rumworth, Bolton) is a special school which prides itself on ensuring accreditation for all. This takes the form of GCSE, GNVQ, NVQ, entry-level certificate and a host of units from the AQA unit award scheme.

We cater for a wide range of learning difficulties and inclusion is practised every day, even within a group of 10 children.

Visiting mainstream staff remark on our successes and all say that their pupils with learning difficulties invariably leave with nothing to show for their efforts.

It is time to rename schools such as ours. The term "special" gives no idea of the quality of education our students receive.
