School: Mosshead Primary, Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire Teacher: Elise Allan What was the best arts event to visit your school in the past year?

Hopscotch Theatre Company. The school is keen on themesand stories with a Scottish bias, and that's what Hopscotch specialises in.

How did you hear about them?

They've been a regular on our books for several years.

What did they do?

They act and dance, sing and play musical instruments, so there's something for everyone.

Did you make any preparations?

Sometimes they send us notes beforehand, but usually the school doesn't have any preparation to do, which is good because the curriculum doesn't allow the time. In fact, we often use their show as the theme for the wall decoration that term, which is a way of focusing the children's attention on their visit.

How long did they stay?

They always time their shows to last about an hour, which is as long as most children can sit without getting restless. If they happen to lose the attention of some of the children, which they can do if they get into too much complicated detail or jokes that go over the heads of the audience, they're extremely good at getting it back again - for example with an action song or with a chase.

How much did it cost?

Pounds 210 Who paid?

Usually we pay them out of the school fund, although not always. Sometimes we ask the children to bring Pounds 1. That's not a problem in this area, especially as the children always enjoy them.

What was so good about them?

They perform to the whole school, from the infants right up to the seniors - not forgetting the teachers, who are always included. We enjoy the jokes and references, though of course we cringe if we get picked on.
