3School: Minnigaff Primary, Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway; school roll 164, classes involved P1-7 Headteacher Kathryn Soriani

What was the best arts company to visit your school in the past year? Hopscotch Theatre Company. We've had them here several times, and we've booked them again for this month.

How did you hear about them? By flyer, from the education authority, I think.

How long did they spend with you? Most of the morning.

What did they do? They put on a stage play - well, they performed in the middle of the hall with the children all around them - telling the story of St Ninian who brought Christianity to this part of the world.

There were three actors portraying his life story. They brought all their own props, costumes and music.

Did you do any preparation beforehand? No.

Did you do any follow-up work? Yes, all sorts of classwork. Writing, artwork, thank you letters, and a piece with a photograph for our local paper, The Galloway Gazette.

What did the visit cost? They get funding from the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association, so it was only about Pounds 1.35 per child.

Who paid that? The school fund.

What was so good about them? They were just terrific. The show was fast-moving and fun as well as historically accurate and the children, in the midst of it all, were enthralled.

It wasn't just a case of them and us, they were part and parcel of it. It was one of the best school performances I've seen.

They're very popular - you do have to book well in advance. They'll be doing The Vikings for us next time.

How relevant was it to the curriculum? It was good for 5-14 Scottish history, for drama and the arts.
