School: Colgrain Primary, Argyll and Bute, number of pupils 240; age of children involved 5-12; headteacher Jean McKeown.

What was the best arts company to visit your school in the past year? Theatre for Youth.

How did you hear about them? From their management company, Kenneth Vaughan.

How long did they spend with you? An afternoon.

What did they do? There were two of them, professional players, and they put on a performance of Treasure Island. All the children sat on the floor in the assembly hall and the players set up their own props, taped music and equipment, and performed, dashing in and out from behind the screens.

Did you do any preparation work beforehand? Not really, though obviously the children knew they were coming.

Did you do any follow-up work? Yes - we had discussions about it in class.

How much did it cost? It was marvellous value - 70p per child.

Who paid? The children.

What was so good about them? The way the actors caught and held the attention of the children and involved them, taking some up to the stage and giving them lines to say.

How relevant was it to the curriculum?

It fitted perfectly into the drama strand in that the children saw how to put on a show, and it related well to both storytelling and listening skills.
