Starting points for activities

The Music Show. By Clive Kempton. Southgate Pounds 8.99. 85741 072 6 This book derives from the popular Channel 4 series but can be used independently of the programmes.

It provides dozens of starting points for musical activities, arranged under familiar headings like Speed and High and Low, as well as less familiar ones like Silence and Beginnings and Ends. There are also some graphic scores to play and listening ideas that range from Vivaldi and madrigals to Berio and Pink Floyd. An unusual and welcome extra feature is a set of suggestions for exploring and shaping sound at home, in kitchens, bathrooms and gardens. This is full of ideas for teachers at key stage 2.
