State backs Muslim prep

The fifth state-funded Muslim school in the country opened its doors to 360 pupils this week.

Balham prep school in south London opted into the state system, winning pound;7 million from the Department for Education and Skills to move to a new site. The school, run by Islamic charity Al-Risaala Education Trust, will follow the national curriculum and face the standard inspection regime.
