The state of boarding

27th June 2003 at 01:00
THEinformation service for state boarding schools - Stabis - has made it easier for parents to find vacancies on its website - www.stabis.org.uk.

State boarding schools - there are 33 in the UK - currently offer more than 5 per cent of all boarding places nationally. Now all Stabis schools will publish and regularly update their boarding vacancies.

The state boarding sector provides education free of charge, leaving parents to pay only for the boarding element of their child's education.

The average state boarding school fee is around pound;6,000 per year - around a third of equivalent provision in the independent sector and on a par with the independent day sector.
