Fine specimens

- The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which owns and operates Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park, has won the Sandford Award for Heritage Education 2012. The RZSS was praised for its schools' programmes, sensitive use of real specimens and handling materials, helpful staff, and incorporation of high-profile attractions to enrich learning.

The young ones

- Balgillo Nursery and sister nursery Balgillo Nursery Too in Broughty Ferry will become the first nurseries in Scotland to have their entire team trained by Dundee Science Centre's Science Learning Institute. Three CPD sessions will cover how to take a subject and build a science project around it; planning and investigation; an inquiry-based learning in an early years setting.
