A website for schools exploring the secret science and engineering behind magic tricks has been launched. "It shows the magic tricks you can do using hidden chemistry, physics, mathematical and engineering principles," said Professor Peter McOwan of Queen Mary, University of London.

Film

Almost pound;40,000 to help train young Gaelic film-makers has been confirmed by First Minister Alex Salmond. A pound;25,000 grant from Bord na Gaidhlig and pound;14,100 direct Scottish Government support will fund skills training for entrants to the 12 to 17-year-old category in this year's FilmG - MG Alba's short film competition.
