Quake detected


- Pupils at Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen detected the earthquake which struck Japan on 11 March, when their seismometer picked up the 8.9 magnitude within 15 minutes. The S2 pupils have been studying earthquakes and their terrible consequences, said geography teacher Louisa Maddox.

Well played


- Citizens Theatre and Glasgow City Council have announced a joint project, under the Youth Music Initiative, to stage a musical theatre production of Divided City. Adapted from the novel by Theresa Breslin, it features a cast of more than 50 children. Tickets went on sale yesterday. The first performance is on 25 May.
