Teacher glut

An extra 710 teachers are working in Scottish classrooms - 230 more in maths and English - as ministers move towards their target of 53,000 working teachers in 2007. Figures show 52,179 teachers are in post. Peter Peacock, Education Minister, hailed the figures as "superb".
