Mr Miliband said the number of students who started postgraduate and undergraduate primary teacher-training courses had declined from 14,777 in 19912 to 14,480 in 20023.

Numbers of postgraduates rose from 5,012 to 7,989 while in the same period undergraduate entrants declined from 9,765 to 6,491.
