TECs on time;Letter

11th June 1999 at 01:00
Your article "Training delay worries TECs" (TES June 4) contained inaccuracies about the introduction of individual learning accounts. The date for the launch of the national scheme has always been 2000, with many Training and Enterprise Councils offering accounts this year. This means that learning accounts will be available on a limited basis in all TEC areas, with a view to being rolled out more widely from 2000.

I am not aware that my TEC colleagues were expecting a boost to their funds through learning accounts. It has always been intended that TECs would contribute to the first million accounts from their resources. While TECs have been asked to look at particular target groups during 1999, there is still considerable scope for TECs to offer learning accounts to individuals outside those groups.
