The TES sends teachers to Spain

A primary teacher from Birmingham and a secondary teacher from Worcestershire have each been awarded financial sponsorship by The Times Educational Supplement to attend a conference in Spain this summer.

The eighth International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-8) will be held in Seville on July 14-21, and is expected to attract some 4,000 delegates from around the world. The congress will include a wide range of activities, including keynote lectures, seminars, working groups on a variety of themes, exhibitions and poster sessions of maths projects from an estimated 80 countries.

Teachers were invited by The TES to explain why they would like to take part in the event. Malcolm Sanders, deputy headteacher of Gunter junior and infant school in Erdington, and Robert Barbour, head of mathematics at Hagley Roman Catholic School in Bewdley, were able to demonstrate that they would have something to contribute to the Congress and that the benefits of attending would be spread beyond the school. They will each receive a Pounds 350 grant towards expenses.

Further information on ICME-8 from Nigel Thomas, education officer at The Royal Society, 6 Carlton House Terrace, London SW19 5AG.
