Thanks on polling day

In Britain's bad old days too many scroungers thought it clever to sit on their backsides and milk the state. Four years of Tony Blair and New Labour have changed all that. One of this Government's great successes has been to transform what was a society of spongers into a culture of self-reliance. Instead of handouts it's now a hand up. The New Deal got 270,000 younsters off benefit and into work. Tax breaks for families and improvements in childcare have allowed thousands of parents to find a job rather than stay at home. And Chancellor Gordon Brown's pound;500 baby bonds will give children a flying start in life. Another vote for Mr Blair and his team is a vote for a brighter Britain and a more secure future for our children.Leader, May 6
