John McCormick, Scottish Qualifications Authority chairman and formerly heidbummer at BBC Scotland, told secondary heads at their annual bash last week of being quizzed at an FE college do about the devotion of BBC staff to the ousted Greg Dyke, chief honcho at the Beeb in London, who resigned over the Iraq stushie.

"How did he do it?" asked a lecturer. "If our boss was thrown out on the street, we wouldn't be crying."
