They have your number

Inviting parents into school to receive prizes is one of the ideas occasionally suggested to improve family involvement in education.

We much prefer the hard-nosed approach taken by pupils at Staverton Primary in Northamptonshire.

They decided to start a Bad Parker of the Month award and snap pictures of parents who parked illegally outside the school. Not only do they name and shame the worst offender, but also put up photos of the car on the school's noticeboard and its website.

Tim Nelson, the school's headteacher, said he had been impressed by the scheme, which was suggested by Year 5 and 6 pupils after several accidents near the school.

We hope that this month's winner, the owner of a blue Land Rover Freelander, is now feeling suitably embarrassed.
