Thousands of new staff? Just a blip on the ratios
A written answer by the Education Minister discloses that the number of primary pupils per full-time teacher is rojected to fall from 18.8 to 16.7 by 2015. There will be little movement in secondary schools, where ratios will go from 12.9:1 to 12.4:1.
Secondary ratios were actually better in 1990 at 12.2:1, while the position in primary schools has been improving almost year on year since 1980, the figures show.
