Threshold 'too low' for endowment payback

26th January 2001 at 00:00
The pound;10,000 earnings threshold for repayment of the graduate endowments that replace student tuition fees is too low, all members of the Parliament enterprise and lifelong learning committee believe.

Commenting on the Executive's Education (Graduate and Student Support) (Scotland) No 2 ill, they say that the student loan threshold of pound;10,000 needs to be raised at least in line with post-1997 inflation and that would result in a similar increase for graduate payments.

SNP and Conservative MSPs on the committee opposed the principle of introducing endowments.
