Time to go for greener ethos

Schools should market themselves as environmentally-friendly to attract eco-conscious parents, a Department for Education and Skills plan has recommended.

Encouraging more children to cycle or walk to school will improve their concentration and could boost results, the document said.

The plan sets out aims for schools for 2020, including wind and solar power in buildings, only using vehicles when necessary, and buying local goods which do not come in disposable packaging.
