Tomato know-how

7th March 2003 at 00:00
Get those tomatoes out of the fridge, dummy, and put them where they belong - in the fruit bowl. They are a sub-tropical fruit and should be stored at room temperature to retain their natural qualities and flavour. If you really want to know your tomatoes, pay a visit to The Tomato Zone (requires Flash software), a bright multimedia site created by the British Tomato Growers' Association for UK primary schools. Here you can be guided around tomato facts - all of them geared to the curriculum (with teachers' notes) by Tommy Tomato and his friend Buzz. There are two virtual glasshouses - one for children aged five to seven and another for eight to 11-year-olds - where you can find numerous activities and games.
