Mathematicians or scientists: which are brighter? A debate has been raging in the TES online staffroom, as encapsulated below.

Wadey writes: "When I was at university someone wrote in the toilets: 'Computer scientists are just tools for mathematicians.'"

Shortly a reply was penned: "Mathematicians are just tools for physicists."

A few days later some wag added: "Physicists are just tools."
