Tory conundrum

If the Tories win the next election, expect immediate distribution of huge clocks with annoying music to failing schools.

Shadow education secretary Tim Collins is a major fan of long-running TV quiz show Countdown - so much of a fan that he organised a Commons reception to honour the programme last week.

Tim said he had been impressed by academic research which showed that children who watched the programme did better in literacy and numeracy.
