Trainees are getting a raw deal on tests

6th July 2012 at 01:00

It is unfair to change the rules regarding the literacy and numeracy skills tests for trainee teachers who are already on, or in the middle of, their teacher training courses ("Resits red card has 'moved the goalposts' for trainees", 29 June). It is one thing to implement these changes for those wishing to embark on teacher training courses as they cannot start training until the skills tests are passed. However, it is an entirely different situation for our current trainee teachers. I believe the added pressure will cause more trainees to fail the skills tests.
