(Photograph) - Left, "Alfonse", a child soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where children as young a nine years old have been fighting in the civil war. Above, Simon Yaonga and Jeannot Moikanamiso, both 19 and both "kotelengana"- unemployed, homeless former child soldiers - sometimes earn a few francs doing odd jobs at the local abattoir. The charity War Child says that some 10,000 former child soldiers in the DRC need help to return to normal life. The war is still raging in the east of the country.
