Trawls catch false witnesses

10th October 2003 at 01:00
Your article on Mike Lawson and false allegations of abuse was excellent (TES, September 19). I believe there are scores of innocent teachers and carers in prison today. The police are relying on multiple allegations which they are encouraging, driven by the public's (understandable) abhorrence of these crimes. We need to stop police trawling, stop compensation claims, and look at all the evidence - those who say it didn't happen, as well as those who say it did.
