Truancy truth

Your article on truancy ("Absent without leave", TES Magazine, April 16) barely dipped a toe into the reasons for absence - what little context there was focused on the problem of lack of vocational learning.

It ignored the elephant in the room: school phobia and bullying, which affects more and more pupils right across the social spectrum and inevitably leads to persistent truancy.
