Try another parable for size

Robert Allen's letter was less a refutation of the thesis that grant-maintained status is unfair, than a justification of the unfairness. But the notion that this Government's support for GM status is driven by New Testament values (the parable of the talents) is too much.

One wonders how Cardinal Hume overlooked this well known parable when he delivered such a devastating critique of GM status three years ago. Perhaps he had in mind the temptation of Christ: that powerful story which encourages the view that not everyone has a price.
