OK, we own up. Eagle-eyed readers of the excellent Guide to Education in Scotland 2000, published by TES Scotland (only pound;19.99), will have noticed that at least one item has been somewhat overtaken by events. For on page 33 they will see the confident features of Ron Tuck, "chief executive of the Scottish QualificationsAuthority since 1997". Well, how were we to know before the copy deadline?

But, presciently, the mini-biog of the Higher Still architect points out: "He has the bitter-sweet experience of putting his own ideas into practice and then having to cope with the design problems!" Perhaps we did know after all.
