I have been interested in recent correspondence in The TES about the Office for Standards in Education. Is it not strange that we hear so little about this from the teacher unions?
The Government seems to have given OFSTED a free hand to roam the country harassing and intimidating teachers, overwhelming headteachers with bureaucratic demands, declaring schools "failures" and producing phoney "statistics" based on purely subjective judgments.
Do we hear protests from the National Union of Teachers, National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, National Association of Head Teachers and other unions? So far as one can tell from reading your paper, there is not a peep out of any of them. Some members must be wondering what they get in return for their hefty subscriptions.
