University challenge

Bath University has joined efforts to create a university in Swindon, running Higher National Diploma, degree and postgraduate courses at sites across Wiltshire. Some courses will start next year with a joint group from Bath and the University for Swindon and Wiltshire project planning rapid expansion in future years.

David VandeLinde, Bath vice-chancellor, said: "It is no longer the case that only 18 to 21-year-olds wish to study full-time for degrees. Students and employers are demanding more."
