University of the West of Scotland

* The proposed name for the institution, the University of the West of Scotland, has created controversy. The name was mooted some time ago, and it appears it will be adopted to the consternation of elected representatives in Paisley. They are unhappy that Scotland's biggest town will cease to have a university named after it. Paisley South MSP and former education minister Hugh Henry this week criticised First Minister Alex Salmond for not having intervened in the matter.
