Rhodri Morgan, Welsh first minister, has been acting as long-distance postman for a comprehensive in Rhondda Cynon Taff. During a trip to South Africa this week, he visited Umqhele secondary in one of the most deprived townships in Johannesburg to deliver letters written by pupils at the Welsh-medium Llanhari comprehensive. The schools have been corresponding for two years, and Llanhari pupils have raised more than pound;1,000 for their counterparts in Umqhele.
