Having read your editorial "Key question behind the consultation" (FE Focus, May 9), you might like to learn of our response to the Department for Innovation,
Universities and Skills consultation submitted by the Petersfield branch of the Workers' Educational Association (WEA).
We are a fledgling branch, barely four years old. Members of the committee are wholeheartedly committed to the principles of lifelong learning but despair of the burgeoning paperwork and tick-boxes, and the narrow-minded and reductionist audit culture that pervades adult education.
We are deeply suspicious about using "informal" to describe the courses of study provided by the WEA - and we react strongly against being dubbed "learners".
We very much hope you will continue to give this issue the high profile it deserves.
