Welcome freedom from Section 11;Letter

28th May 1999 at 01:00
The article stating that hundreds of black and Asian teachers will lose their jobs as Section 11 budgets are devolved directly to schools (TES, May 14) is merely scare tactics by the National Union of Teachers. In fact the majority of S11 teachers are white.

The changes are to be welcomed for the very reason that headteachers will be free to employ good staff to teach ethnic- minority pupils rather than having to respond to politically correct scripts from those who have controlled S11 funds from town halls for the past 30 years.
