This week's pick of the resources available on TES Connect have more than a whiff of danger, involving potions, the most famous murder in cinema history and Spanish insults

1. Sign of four

What is it? An Excel spreadsheet that generates pages of maths problems for the four basic rules

Who is it for? 7-11s

Why is it hot? Saves time and can be easily adapted to suit different topics and abilities.

2. Odd one out

What is it? A worksheet of odd-one-out questions

Who is it for? 3-5s

Why is it hot? Bright pictures of food and other everyday objects give the task a visual allure.

3. Magic potions

What is it? A maths activity that gets children mixing "potions" to learn about capacity

Who is it for? 7-11s

Why is it hot? A lot of fun can be had making these potions, with names such as Turn Your Teacher Crazy, Brain Juice and Calculation Wizard.

4. Woody and Buzz

What is it? This worksheet, featuring characters from the film Toy Story, help children to practise using speech marks

Why is it hot? Encourages children to be creative and imaginative.

5. Fish symbol

What is it? A PowerPoint on the significance of symbols, which explores the meaning behind the Christian fish symbol

Who is it for? 5-11s

Why is it hot? This religious education lesson, which finishes with a drawing activity, can be adapted for a range of ages.

What is it? A PowerPoint presentation that introduces phrases to help students describe their home town

Who is it for? 11-13s

Why is it hot? Stretches faster learners by encouraging them to form opinions and find further vocabulary.

7. Hitch in time

What is it? Presentations and worksheets for work on Alfred Hitchcock's classic film Psycho

Who is it for? 14-18s

Why is it hot? A love of cinema shines through in these resources, which include a breakdown of the infamous shower scene into 25 stills.

8. Babe truth

What is it? An introduction to life in the US in the 1920s

Who is it for? 11-13s

Why is it hot? A whistlestop tour of the decade that includes Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth and the Model T Ford.

9. Lovely Rita

What is it? A scheme of work on Willy Russell film Educating Rita

Who is it for? 11-16s

Why is it hot? Pulls apart the nuts and bolts of a script, and packs in a lot of learning.

10. Spanish spats

What is it? A collection of slides to help students argue in Spanish

Who is it for? 11-13s

Why is it hot? Encourages theatricality, with translations of phrases such as "Don't go there!" and "You're crazy!"
