This week's selection of the resources available on TES Connect includes examples of how to approach huge and daunting topics, such as the Nazis, the life of Jesus Christ and the ethics of cloning

1 Simile, please

What is it? A card game on linguistic devices

Who is it for? 7-16s

Why is it hot? Covers a wide range of terms including similes, metaphors, adjectives, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, adverbs, onomatopoeia and rhetorical questions. The game contains some entertaining examples.


2 Maths cards

What is it? A set of cards offering quick maths tasks

Who is it for? 5-7s

Why is it hot? The cards can be laminated and dotted around the classroom so that children can use their spare time to practise what they have learned.


3 Snakes and readers

What is it? A phonics snakes and ladders game

Who is it for? 5-7s

Why is it hot? Rouses children's competitive spirit and reinforces learning about graphemes.


4 Hey Dood

What is it? Maths worksheets about money

Why is it hot? Makes fun use of idiosyncratic characters from the Dexter and Dood superhero stories.


5 Stone Age plan

What is it? A scheme of work for a unit exploring the Stone Age

Who is it for? 7-11s

Why is it hot? Includes plenty of inspiring web links and YouTube clips.


6 Hello Dolly

What is it? A biology information booklet about cloning, investigating the University of Edinburgh's work in 1996 that led to the creation of Dolly the sheep

Who is it for? 11-13s

Why is it hot? Contains a wealth of information on different aspects of the cloning debate, including scientific and political viewpoints.


7 All about Jesus

What is it? A set of religious education resources entitled "Who was Jesus and what was he like?"

Who is it for? 11-13s

Why is it hot? Encourages creativity, discussion and analytical thought.


8 Propaganda pick

What is it? A history workbook on the Nazis

Who is it for? 14-16s

Why is it hot? Includes a thoughtful look at Nazi propaganda, exploring its use in newspapers, films and rallies.


9 Great graphs

What is it? A simple worksheet on graph transformation

Who is it for? 14-16s

Why is it hot? These cut-out-and-keep slips make for a great introduction, or they can be used to help with revision.


10 Dreadful Deutsch

What is it? A humorous worksheet on commonly misused German phrases

Who is it for? 7-16s

Why is it hot? Reminds pupils how easy it is to mistakenly say "I am boring" or "I am drunk", among other clangers.
