What's in the red box?

When the Chancellor holds up his red box on Budget Day, how many of us really understand what lies within? The Red Box is a lively pack for secondary pupils that offers information on public services and the ways they are funded. A video reflects the bewilderment of a teenager who wonders where all the "free stuff" comes from and who pays for it.

Teachers' notes give background, and worksheets and case studies look at everything from the Treasury's accounts to the shadow economy.
