Words on wheels

28th April 2000 at 01:00
The Scottish Book Trust has a new vehicle on the road to replace the Readiscovery bus which stopped operating last year. The van will take recommended children's books, authors and illustrators to the far reaches of Scotland. While the author or illustrator works with one group, the driver (a member of the Scottish Book Trust staff) can offer book-based activities, in-service training for teachers or talks to parents. Sponsorship from Scottish Friendly Assurance will cover transport and accommodation costs, but a contribuion of pound;100 a day towards the author's fee will be required to cover two to three sessions in a day.

The Scottish Book Trust has also published four new Words of Wonder leaflets to help parents choose books for their children. These cover 0-4 years, 5-8, 7-8 and 8-11.

For leaflets (pound;1 for 10, pound;1.75 for 20, pound;2.50 for 30 or pound;3.50 for 50) or to book a tour, contact Lindsey Fraser at the Scottish Book Trust, 137 Dundee Street, Edinburgh EH11 1BG, tel 0131 229 3663, email scottish.book.trust@dial.pipex.com
