Wrong message on weaknesses

9th June 2000 at 01:00
I WRITE to correct your article (TES, May 26) in respect to Luton's OFSTED inspection. The report did not say that our weaknesses outweighed our strengths.

In fact, the report identified more areas which were good or effective than those considered not to be performed adequately.

As the inspectors commented, Luton has done wellto establish itself in such a short period of time and to accept responsibility for the difficult legacy it inherited.

We recognise the need for further improvement and are confident that we and our schools will successfully meet the challenges ahead.
