This week, Tes columnist Sarah Simons and FETL president Dame Ruth Silver discuss the challenges of leading a college. They revisit the recent departures of eight college principals, and assess what the research on leadership in FE suggests about the best way to run a college. 

Dame Ruth argues there is more compassion needed in FE, not just for leaders, but for the sector as a whole, but also stresses that leaders need to be aware that the funding invested in the college sector is public money.
