The Times Educational Supplement is to launch a new weekly education newspaper for Wales.

TES Cymru will make its appearance on the news-stands next Friday. Its inaugural issue will include a 16-page preview of Wales’s national education exhibition and conference, to be held in Cardiff on May 27 and 28.

Bob Doe, editor of The TES, said he was delighted to be launching a separate edition for Wales. “There’s a real need for such a paper as the post-devolution Welsh education system is quite different from the English one. TES Cymru will offer readers much-improved coverage of Welsh issues as well as all the important English news and our popular magazines.”

TES Cymru’s Cardiff-based editor is Karen Thornton, who joined The TES six years ago as a reporter and has recently been editing its School Leadership section. She did her postgraduate journalism training at Cardiff university and later worked as a schools reporter in south Wales.

Karen Thornton can be contacted on 029 2066 0201 or email karen.thornton@tes.co.uk
